I’ve been using an Atari 2600 synthcart for some sonic embellishments of late. Anyone else have a favorite new “toy”?

the dr-110 is one of my favorite sounding drum machines… considering getting mine modded to have individual outputs and trigger outs…and a trigger input…would be so nice…!

What type of adapter (power supply) is suitable for the DR-110: negative or positive tip? The Boss adapters for pedal-effects are negative-tip?

the DR-110 indeed uses the same adaptor as the FX-pedals (PSA series, 9V)

I assumed this was true, and have used a negative tip adapter. However, the above link to the sync-mod states at the bottom that you should use a positive tip adapter. I’ve had problems only when I tried to use a virtual-sound one-spot daisy-chain with my drum machines and effects—the DR-110 didn’t like that and the LCD screen went crazy, so I suspect there may be something to this positive tip assertion.

what do you take me for, david? i possess all the electronics wizardry of a drunk orangutan. give me a soldering iron and i’d wind up short a left hand and a testicle tongue laugh din sync would be nice, for sure, but i’d rather just have the individual + trigger outs. and maybe tuning and decay smile
maybe i should just get over my mod-phobia…

as far as power, i was using a normal radioshack 9v adapter very recently to no ill effect. i’ve used a handful of different standard pedal power adapters.
non-pedal devices seem to freak out a bit when used w/ a one-spot (as do some pedals, i think).

110 modifications

You have to start somewhere!

Two things to keep in mind:

1) I don’t always know what I’m talking about (!)
2) I don’t have a DR-110

but, judging from this:

http://www.cykong.com/Synths/Boss DR-110/Images/Boss DR-110 Schematics b Voice.gif

it wouldn’t be too hard at all to make individual outs for BD, SD and Clap, I can’t tell where you could pick up the individual HH and Cy signals.  The dead easiest to do would to put a switching jacks in for SD, BD and all the HH/SY together.

For the SD you’d need to find a place to cut a trace that is between between the nexus of R71/R85/C36 and the Balance pot.  The switching jack would be wired to complete the cut trace when closed (tip to the R71/R85/C36 nexus, normal to the pot.)

For the BD do the same between the balance pot and a point common to R86/C46.

HH/CY are on the other side of the balance pot, put the switching jack between the pot & a common point of R88/R89.

Use 1/8” jacks since the 110 is so tiny.  When the jacks are in use the sounds would dissapear from the mix out.

Trigger I/O might be harder, maybe the 110 uses 6V lines that go to 0V when triggered.  The clap has 3 quick triggers and one other (decay?) which would be hard to replicate or use externally anyway.

This is all fascinating theory, but I could be way wrong.  You might be better off continuing to make music instead of being an armchair technician like myself.

power polarity

Oh yeah… I think the bit at the bottom of the DR-110 sync mod page is regarding powering a lttle box the author is willing to sell you to do DIN sync (not for the 110)

regards to the nyc compatriats!

I’m willing to try on mine, din would be cool, but separate outs would be what I really care about. Looking for a new hobby anyway.. 8O
