I’ve been curious about this for a while, but it seems Mike VanPortfleet rarely talked about the gear he used, which is kind of admirable/adds to the mystery of the noises he got.

hi… i seem to remember there being a long article/interview with Lycia in 1 of my old issues of the Music From the Empty Quarter mags… i can try to dig it up for you, but before I do, pls let me know if you’ve already read that interview

One got to admit, though, that the sound was heavily processed, so getting the correct drum machine won’t give you Lycia’s sound at instant. Same is true for The Cure’s “One Hundred Years”.

Pretty sure I haven’t read that interview. I’m aware of the processing, as I often run my ‘drums’ through both a DOD G7 guitar processor and a trashy old Fender M80 amp… I was just trying to figure out what machine(s) was the backbone on this record.
