Any opinions on André Szigethy’s band “The Dry Halleys”?

they put out a few records in the 80s on the german label “Überschall”, which seem to be fairly easy to pick up (in contrast to his über-rare solo lp).

what do you think, is the DRY HALLEYS stuff worthwile? and is it synth-based?

I very dimly recall their stuff, and from reading the line-up on a Dry Halleys cover rather recently I know they used dreadful instruments like a guitar, a real bass and real drums.  8)  That plus some Szigehty synths.

I think it was something like a bit of a diffuse sound with an anti-fashist attitude. Could be wrong though, it was a long time ago.

Now being from that nice little village posing as a big city called Bremen - just like Szigethy and Überschall - for anybody who’s interested Michael reopened his Überschall record store last November. Found some nice stuff there.

Last time I was there he told me minimal synth people are a bit crazy to pay Euro 204.- for something like X-Quadrat on Ebay.

well, i guess he’s right. you can buy the whole Anna Logue Records or Minimal Wave Records catalogue for this amount and you maybe get better music, more music and the stuff is in perfect condition. yiha, that’s all about it.

Bonjour Mademoiselle,

Can’t say that when I hear Euro 204.-, I automatically think X-Quadrat.
For Michael, it was rather one of those “this funny little record that has been sitting in my vault with thousands of others for a very long time should all of a sudden be worth that much these days?” moments.

And of course you can also donate that kind of money to a charity, or you can get a rubber mask or a new second-hand turntable, or if you live by the late George Best, you can spend 90% of it on women, drink and fast cars. The rest you just waste.  8)

Forget the Dry Halleys, ... all you need is the Szighety LP.

When in Bremen the weekend before last, I actually got the chance to relisten to the Dry Halleys LP - dreadful!

A bit of this, a bit of that, no sense of direction whatsoever.

All things to all men in low-fi.

Arghh!
