What’s the story with this record?  I found a beat up used copy for $1.00 about a year ago.  I know nothing about it other than its not bad.

Well, I suppose it IS just super great and WAS super rare. Now everybody gets the chance to grab an own copy. Isn’t that nice ? If all collectors were like that, this world would be a better place…. wink

Hi Marc,

Good store and selection you have there. I have bought from you before.
Do you think you will offer sound samples for the “Other Labels & Releases” section in the near future ?

Personally I prefer to listen to some samples before buying a record.

ciao,
BB

Hi V.,

thank you very much!

Actually I do agree, of course, that sound samples are the best thing to offer in order to make a decision whether to buy a record or not, but there are things going on here that are not rational at all anymore. If you provide MP3s - or as now only allowed streams - you have to pay a lot of money to GEMA (like SABAM)  in case it’s any registered material. But how can I always be sure a 100% ? I can’t and I don’t have the time to inverstigate that with every record. There are many lawyers around now checking all the web sites and if they find anything, it costs you already a lot of money… so all in all, I can’t afford running any risk and paying for the streams is is nearly more than I can earn from the stuff. All of this is killing the small labels and mailorders, hooray to the majors, they made it!

So I suppose, that I will only put streams up the site when I know that I do not run a risk and that can only happen if I deal with the artists directly.

pff 8O How can somebody run an online record store if they don’t allow you to offer sound samples. What are people going to do with a 30 sec snippet? I’m really surprised by this.

Do brick and mortar record stores pay copyright for every CD or Record customers listen to as well?

You see this is how a rational guy like you and me would argument, but this is not of interest for those who are in for the money. Of course, no-one will compile a 80mins CDR with 30 secs samples, but try to convince them…. Actually, also all of this is really a “jungle” and I cannot see fully clear through it, that’s why I prefer to stay on the “safe side”.

So, the easy thing for Anna to do is make a “mixtape” like some other members of this forum did, and put it up at
http://www.vulcanoid.net/mixes.php

That way, us careful collectors (who have to turn every penny) get to hear more good music, and Anna may get to sell a couple more records too?

Who knows but you might have fun doing it too! :-D

You go girl!

I think it’s worth looking into. You will sell more for sure. Stores like Flexx.be (which is a one man operation) offer soundfiles for all records they selll. Juno.co.uk same thing (high bit rate 1 minute samples). Clone.nl same.

I don’t think it’s as hard as you think to offer soundbites.

Maybe contact the people at clone or flexx. Or ask the GEMA people.

Chevalier you work for the devil (SABAM)  do you know the regulations ?

You always have to pay author rights, even if it’s less than 30 seconds.  These 30 seconds are used by record companies when they give permission to put works from their catalogue online for a promotional use.
