1000 Ohm
1000 Ohm
1000 Ohm was a Belgian new wave band, which existed from 1980 to 1987. The band scored a worldwide hit with the song A.G.N.E.S.
1000 Ohm was founded by Frank Van Bogaert , who at the time was only eighteen, Koen Van Assche, Johan Van Herck and Erwin Vermeulen. The band made electronic music and included synths , bass and percussion. The name refers to a 1000 ohm amplifier: an ohm is the unit of electrical resistance.
In 1981, broke through with A.G.N.E.S., which became a true international cult hit. The band was offered contracts and survived until 1987, although subsequent numbers never matched the success of AGNES. The song has been carefully composed, with a moody, chromatic melody, and - at least in Belgium - an icon of the early eighties degenerate.
The 1000 ohm style is typical cold darkwave , very melodic and slightly melancholic.
