Minimal Wave is proud to present a 6 song EP by the UK/US duo Sandra Electronics. Originally formed as Sandra Plays Electronics by Karl O’Connor in 1988, the project has evolved over the years to become a collaborative endeavor with Juan Mendez (aka Silent Servant). Three of the tracks were first released as an Untitled 10” on Downwards in 2010, and the record quickly sold out. Those songs have been re-edited and remastered for this EP, and three more rare demos and live versions have been added. The songs can be described as hypnotic industrial electronic mantras with enigmatic keyboards and treated vocals. Each track draws the listener in, with its repetitive psychedelic percussion and dark affected vocal. The record is a hand-numbered edition of 999 copies pressed on 180 gram ultra clear vinyl, and housed in a high quality heavy weight printed sleeve featuring a vintage photograph of Samia Gamal. Release date: April 30th, 2014, with special signed copies available for sale on May 10th at the Brookyln Flea RBMA Record Fair. Sandra Electronics will be doing an exclusive DJ set and record signing that day. Sound samples below. Track B1, the Protection Now (demo) was also featured on Veronica Vasicka’s LN-CC mix 8 minutes in. Pre-order now, records will ship on April 30th.

* Denotes bonus track(s) available only on a CD / Digital version of this release, if a CD / Digital version of this release is available

Reviews

Karl O’Connor aka Regis presents an effective “best of” his Sandra Electronics project on a posh Minimal Wave pressing, comprising re-edited and remastered versions of all yer favourites, replete with rare demos and live versions. Aided and abetted by current band member Juan Mendez aka Silent Servant, O’Connor presents slickly re-edited versions of the droning, buzzing bomb ‘It Slipped Her Mind’, the tripped-out lurker ‘Protection Now!’, an extended, searing version of the skeletal ghoul riddim ‘New Purpose’, plus its more melodic demo version, beside a live mix of the snake-hipped ‘Want Need’, and demo version of shoegazing swell-on, ‘Publicity’. Class.
