GARTEN KIRKHOF was formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1989 and called it quits for personal reasons in 1994. When GK first formed there was only Jeffrey, Veto and Wayne. Drums were provided by a drum machine. About a year and several shows later, they managed to convince former Shadow of Fear drummer, Jeff Pell, to join them. Garten Kirkhof was initially heavily influenced by Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees and early Christian Death. When they began, they were strictly a Goth band, but as the years passed and guitarists were changed, other influences such as Killing Joke, Bunnydrums, Red Temple Spirits and The Chameleons, to name a few, were tapped into. So they had gradually shifted from Goth into dark Post Punk.
