About this artist… what’s any good? What should I get? It seems he has released quite a lot of stuff, it would be great to know where to begin…

apart from the “Very Best Of” CD, which probably has nothing i need if I buy everything good vinyl he’s done?

Any comments appreciated.

Cheers
Øystein

You should definitely buy the lp “Gifts and Telegrams” (with the blue sleeve). The song “One Little Soldier’ is on it, great minimal track!

hi,

I did remember something about an LP in blue sleeve, yes - had forgotten the name though. Thanks!

...Do you know the rest of the tracks on that LP? More minimal classics or is that one just a fluke?

I have heard a live boot from 84 where he plays two sets, the first is accoustic!! More Billy Bragg on a depressed morning than anything minimal, still it’s actually rather interesting. & I like his voice.

Patrick Fitzgerald came on the UK scene about the same time as the rise of punk (76/77) and was lumped into that category.  He is mainly a singer-songwriter type of artist who prefers solo acoustic songs.  He had been known to record with simple drum machines and a Wasp synthesizer on occasion, but really not a “minimal electronic” artist.

Right,

thanks to all of you for the info!
I guess it’s “Gifts and telegrams” and the best-of CD for me then! grin

What I’ve heard I liked. I have 2 7"ers by him. They’re pretty easy to get in NYC, I see them fairly often at used record stores, must’ve sold ok when they came out here.

You know what?

I thought you were talking about Patrick S. Martin, since this is a minimal board.

Anyway, Patrick Fitzgerald is ok, he’s like a pre-cursor to Billy Bragg, folk punk stuff..I dunno, not crazy about it! Would rather listen to 60’s folk troubadors.

Patrick S. Martin did some cool synthpop singles.

Is it not Patrick D. Martin you’re talking about? He made a 7” called “I Like ‘Lectric Motors”.

Love that Patrick D Martin stuff, and the fact that it’s easy to come by.

I have the 12” ep with Computer Datin’ and ‘Lectric Motors.  I was just listening to it a few days ago for the first time in probably 10 years.

Skipping Patrick D. Martin for awhile, gorgeous feller though he is,

I got my “Gifts and Telegrams” LP today, and what a SUPER LP it is!!!  8O

I’m just in the middle of side 2 now, but already it’s one of my favorite LPs, way up there with “The Right to Die”, “Window” and “Jobs for America”.

This LP is so good it can’t possibly be his only buyable product. I’ll look into this, you’ll hear from me!
