Hello there!!

This is my question. It is very important for my university work and so on for the bibliography. I can’t add to it that links cause it any vanishes most of the time and i have to prove that these things really exists!
In other way, i want to know if there is a way to save these vids, as .mpg or anything in a good quality enough. I tried to rip it in .flv version but it’s pretty bad.
Might you help me?

Thanks so much!! I love you!!!

I already answered to it here. Check the “keepvid” module on google. It’s a page/form, you enter the adress of the youtube/googlevids/etc on the page and it creates a link where you can save it. But you have to add “.flv” otherwise the file won’t be listenable.

it’s impossible as the file on youtube is by essence a flv… it’s like to make a wav from a mp3 : the quality remains the one of the mp3.

:(

But alan, it is not impossible, seems an informatician-friend of my Research Director knows how to do it but i said to him “well, i will try to make it myself,it is my work” but hmmm i think i don’t have tiime to lose to try to put it in any ways on mpeg version so i will ask this guy simply. If he wants to beray himself and tell how to do this, i will inform you on this topic wink

les vidéos youtube sont de faible résolution à la source… que tu la mettes en mpg ou en jackie chan (si si ça existe ce format) ça restera en basse résolution…  :D

Ciao EF,

Like Alan_B (our local enfant terrible) says they compress really low and the quality will remain the same. If I understood well you want to download and keep the files. Here’s a crack I used and works to download the .flv and then convert to mp4 and even improve quality somewhat. Here are the step by step instructions for Mac (for some reason I think you use Mac…).

I’ll paste below the link to the site in case you need to work on PC.

A) First steps is getting the video onto your desktop (works for (PC, Mac, Linux) :

Any web browser
Go to YouTube.com and find a clip you like. Every video page on YouTube has a little EMBED box that allows you copy code and post YouTube video clips on your website. We are going to take advanage of this.
(the embed box is to the right of the clip below the URL box. You must use this or it will not work)

  * Copy the code and paste it into a text edit program like TextEdit (Mac) or Notepad (PC). The code will look something like this:

    <object width=“425” height=“350”>
    </param> </param><embed src=“http://www.youtube.com/v/-oNQXLNMh0c” type=“application/x-shockwave-flash” wmode=“transparent” width=“425” height=“350”></embed></object>

  * You are looking for the URL of the video file. In the example above that would be: http://www.youtube.com/v/-oNQXLNMh0c. Copy this URL and paste it into a new web browser window and press the Return/Enter key on your keyboard.

  * The YouTube clip should load your web browser as a full screen clip. Press play and wait for the video to load.

  * Now take a closer look at the URL. It’s different than what you pasted in there. It’s a lot longer right? It should look something like this: http://www.youtube.com/p.swf?video_id= -oNQXLNMh0c&eurl;=&iurl=http://sjl-static5.sjl.youtube.com/vi/-oNQXLNMh0c/2.jpg&t=OEgsToPDskJaNd08X90swYCiZMZTzBdb

  * The next step is to change the piece of code that says “p.swf” to “get_video”. So the example above should look like this after the change: 2.jpg&t=OEgsToPDskJaNd08X90swYCiZMZTzBdb

  * Press return and your video will start to download.

  * Save it to your Desktop

B) Convert to MP4 for Mac using Isquint. Drag and drop stuff, easy.

Voilà.

Hi BB,

Thanks a lot for that explanation BB. :D
But no, i don’t use any Mac. Is that the same procedure to make it on a PC???? This i don’t have any idea about, also i don’t know which PC freewares are good enough to make the convertion from .flv to a better one.

Salut Echo,

Step A is the same for PC.

Step B I haven’t tried it but there is Moviepod out there for PC. Converts FLV to most formats. So at least you can convert to mp4 or even put it on DVD (but don’t forget there is not much that can be done about the FLV “lousy”  compression).

Moviepod, it’s 10$ or 7,60€ (cheap)
