Hi,
I am new to this forum - just discovered it last week, but it has already answered a question I had been trying to answer for about 2 years.  I used to have a Korg MS-10 synth back in the 80s and also a drum machine.  I sold them both a long time ago but bought another MS-10 off eBay 2 years ago.  I wanted to try and find the same drum machine again, but just couldn’t remember what it was and scoured various websites on analogue kit but never found a photo that I recognised.  Then I saw mention of a Soundmaster Memory Rhythm SR-88 earlier in this thread.  It kind of rang a dim and distant bell (an anologue one of course smile ) so I typed it into google and there was a picture of the very drum machine I used to own and love (it was the first programmable one I ever had).

So now all I need to do is try and get hold of one again - does anyone know how much they tend to go for?

This is a great site I have discovered loads of fantastic music that I never knew about before - and it all takes me back to my youth.

hi,

the very last auction of an SR-88 on ebay.de ended at EUR 77,99, and i guess USD 100,00 is around what i remember from ebay.com ....

ah, it is a great little machine, can also be heard on the V-SOR, X (A Strip of Light but still too dark, 81-86, CD, genetic music) tracks, pure love….

Shortly after posting my last message about the SR 88 one turned up on ebay and I have just been lucky enough to win it :D

This one is blue, but the one I used to have was grey.  Does anyone know if there is any difference other than colour/layout?  Was one earlier than the other and if so which came first?

hello again. the blue one is an older model that if my information is correct, does not have any trigger outputs. I have 2 of the grey ones, one (much love to NE)I modifyed with individual trigger outputs for all 4 instrumets.. the other i added a trigger input to sync both of them. the sr 88 has great modding capabilities. you may have a trigger output rigged. not sure where you are or who would do it, but if you were in my backyard i’d do it for you. grin there isnt one i havent modded yet, the older the better!

[quote author=“solvent”]hi catherine,

another really great one to consider is the Korg KR-55, used on lots of the early Mute records

italian band Central Unit used for their first 12’’ Loving Machinery a modified-bythemselves version of kr55 standard model, connected with a computer (not a vic20 neither a commodore but a normal office model). an ingeneer friend of them writed manually all the operations to connect the drum to the computer, separeted for every sound..

they started to use kpr77 only in 1983, theres is also a video available here

is a playback of course..lol

i know a very long story about their drum machines eheheh

Shame about the lack of trigger output.  I had been looking forward to syncing it up with my MS-10 like I used to - oh well.
I’m living in North Yorkshire.
