Looking for a new drum machine… something that is relatively easy to use. Wondering if anyone has something for sale or any other info that might be useful.

I am interested in the Korg minipops 35 and sr-120, roland cr-68 and cr-78, even one of those old univox seem ok.

hi,

i have an extra SOUND MASTER Memory Rhythm SR-88 to give away. check it out on THE ACTOR’s first tape “Exploded View” ! it is quite similar to the BOSS DR-55, but more versatile due to possibility of programming both hi-hat and cymbals. perfect vintage sound.

i am still looking for a Roland TR-606. maybe we can arrange something if i add something to the SR-88 ?

I have a Boss DR-55, the very last remaining bit of equipment I own. I haven’t seen the battery lid around for years, but it must be around somewhere…

Either of you want it?

Hi CK,

I came across this lot here and thought, hmm didn’t someone on the MW forum mention Minipops.  This guy here has the works, not cheap but good working order.

Korg Minipops 120w
Korg Minipops junior
Roland CR-78

He also has a cool looking Roland MC-8 analog sequencer

etc

I dont have a tr606 on hand, but I have seen those on ebay, and they usually so not cost that much.

The sr-88 is pretty ok sounding… has all those basic cheesy beats smile

does someone has already bought something to that KOZZ ??? Can we trust him ? I always fear people that pretend to sell only analogue stuff in their boutiques… it’s “too good to be real” something like that.

Hey, too good to be true is nice… and possible if you are lucky and have the funds!

hi catherine,

the Korg SR-120 is a good one to go for, this is the one used by Fad Gadget on Back to Nature, The Box, Newsreel,...

another really great one to consider is the Korg KR-55, used on lots of the early Mute records (Depeche, some later Fad Gadget, Miller used when producing Soft Cell’s Memoribilia), and also very common in lots of the minimal wave classics (Exp Products, Fiction Technology, lots more), also on Skanfrom’s TV Set releases

Univox - the SR-95 is the only one to consider, but still it’s not the greatest IMO - the other ones are pretty lame sounding

of course, the best is still the CR-78, or CR-68… i have both…. i MAY BE willing to consider selling the CR-68 if you make me an offer… just go to my website solventcity.com and click on the picture to email me

bye

jason

not a drum machine but I’m a big fan of the Simmons SDS V drum brain.  These can really sound great and can still be had cheap.  No sequencer though.  You can get away using the cheap digital drum machine of your choice (using the individual outs to trigger the simmons), or look for a simmons MTM or I think there are MIDI to trigger options available in the last couple of years that pretty cheap (PAiA Midi2CV8 for one.)

or, what I’d *love*, a Simmons SDS-6 sequencer!

it’s quite a different sound from the beat boxes, but still very much ‘of the era’ of minimal wave

Speaking of drum brains, I just inheireted one of these from my friend:

http://www.sonicstate.com/synth/roland_dr330.cfm

I haven’t tried firing it up yet, but I remember it having some really cheesey/good syn drum sounds and a really good kettle drum sound.

Then again I haven’t heard it in action since about 1991, so my memory may be faulty.

I have read some good things about that machine… you will have to let us know how it sounds.

I am still looking for some srum machines, but just moved and don’t have extra cash anymore.. will have to wait til I have more funds… either way, I am still looking for sometihng worth spending the money on.
