Well if this

had worked out the guy would have had plenty of cash to purchase the items you desire.  8)

So Anna has a girlfriend then? And everybody loves Mike?

Oh well, this is modern days and heterosexuality is nothing to be ashamed of any more….

Well, if it’s just “for the music” as you say you can easily find those requested tunes on blogs ... make it DIY: download them and make your very own compilation with soul and heart wink
Sorry, but I think some of your wants will easily get a 3 digit price at eBay or are also for not less available from collectors ...

only because others like to spend $1000 on a record or trade multiple rare records for one doesn’t mean that i must play the game, too….

i was just asked to sell a record from my collection, and was given an offer for that record ...in the end i am giving it away for something like half of the offer ... but maybe i am a rare species?

that you are my dear. wink
If someone asked me to buy something from my collection and offered me half the money it’s worth for it, I would come to entirely the opposite conclusion than you. I wouldnt even sell most of the items for double their value. I mean, it’s a collection! Records go into it, not out of it…  raspberry

Au contraire, a personal collection is all about stuff going in and out. What you decribe is a personal library…..

BTW, does this mean we will get 50% off all items from Anna’s shop now? Sounds like I need to make a bulk order….

I’m used to the library being where stuff is going in and out, whereas a collection is where stuff is collected?

I’ve seen ‘ex libris’ stickers in books, but I’ve never known a collector pasting ‘ex collectionis’ stickers on his LPs wink So, maybe you’re the one with a personal library?

Hey, I know, let’s ask Obscure!
Steephen!! Is it a collection if you take stuff out of it?

Well I thought the “personal” bit had hinted at the direction of my post.

But for the sake of clarity, OK, let’s replace “personal library” with “personal archive” then, shall we?

“Personal collection” OTOH stands for “reflection of the current taste of the collector” and this might change over time of course. So if you think that Sabrina 12” is not really as great any more as it used to be in 1987, and you lose it, well, something goes out of your collection.

BTW please stop with this “Cry Wolf” business. I guess it’s time to worry…. 8)

>be in 1987, and you lose it, well, something goes out of your collection

It’s a great example, as I liked Sabrina in 1987 - but decided not to buy the record since—-

I felt…

wait for it…

I felt it didn’t belong in my Collection.
(This is true, btw; I’m not making it up!) grin

As for changing tastes, I like to regard it more as a broadening of tastes - iow stuff I used to love but don’t anymore must be pretty abysmally horrible before I throw it out. Most music I ever liked enough to buy, has at least sentimental value. That may also have something to do with growing up with less money than I could use; I couldn’t get everything I needed and so my “collection” was for music of a higher order (sic) than, say, Sabrina.

But anyway, disposing of unnecessary, unwanted, or embarrassing items can hardly be compared with selling valuables from the collection - at all, or in particular at half their value?

Hmm, I kinda expected an answer of that sort.

So you have highly sought after collector’s items, and then other stuff you like but that is not part of your collection? And where excactly do you draw the line there?

Well, everything I have and still want is part of my collection, regardless of how cheap or expensive it is. And then there’s this pile of items that can leave.

Re Anna well maybe it was a friend/acquaintance? I happen to buy stuff I know somebody wants and I won’t charge them “list prices” then….

Maybe it doesn’t matter, but you misunderstand; I don’t have other stuff that’s not part of the collection - but I like (or rather, liked, I’m not as uptight as I used to be) music that I don’t own.

These days, the line would be drawn at Spotify - stuff I don’t think is interesting enough to own, I can check out there wink
