Scottish Minimal Synth/Post Punk ‘78-‘84

Was hoping to start a discussion on the best synth/post punk artists from Scotland between ‘78 and ‘84. My favourites are Robert Rental, Thomas Leer, Rhythm of Life/Paul Haig, FK9, Altres and Theme (would welcome any info on this band and their 7” ‘Conflict/Sacred). What are others thoughts?

the robert rental/thomas leer collaboration record is a gem, should have nabbed a copy while i was in paris earlier this year.
otherwise, i do love me some secession (slightly later), as shameless as they can be.

Yeah, the Wake were from Glasgow. Id forgotten about them, love their first 7” ‘On Our Honeymoon’
Also love early Cocteau Twins, especially ‘Speak No Evil’ flexi and the Neon Barbs

Early Eurythmics! Especially the first LP, and the early b-sides like “Le Sinistre” or “Let’s Just Close Our Eyes”...
Do they count as scottish though? Annie is from Aberdeen, but is Dave?

Spartak - I’ve never heard of 100% Man Made Fibre or Zoom Lens, what do you recommend?
Reactorlgtn - I’m never sure whether to count Eurhythmics as Scottish, probably yes.
FrankieTeardrop - I just downloaded the ‘Betrayal’ 7” by Secession and I really like it, very Factory-esque, similar to early Wake.
Been on an early Simple Minds kick lately as well - listening to I Travel and Theme for Great Cities a lot. 8)

zoom lens made a few 7"s but i only know the welcome to china one, which is really good. 100% manmade fibre only made one 7” afaik called green for go.

The “neurope” 7” by Zoom Lens very good, as well. But unlike “welcome to china” it is not really Synth-Sop but more Post-Punk.

Samhain, very interested in your desccription of Zoom Lens, going to have to look into them at some point. When were their records released?
What are people’s opinions on Blue Nile, particularly their ‘I Love this :ife’ 7” and A Walk Across the Rooftops LP?
Also, does anyone know what year the 100% Man Made Fibre 7” was released?

“neurope” was released in 1981, “welcome to china” in 1984. “side to side” was released in 1980.

There was a certain, reasonably succesfull, band from Dundee. They wrote songs about a german white car, love boats, breakfast and easter being on friday….

Anyone know anything about a band called Brynger? I think they released 2 7"s in 1981 - ‘Son of a Gun’ and one other whose name escapes me just now. Any other info?
