New Mt Sims EP on Hungry Eye Records:

EYE15: A Grave 12” EP
EYE15.jpg

The past year and a half has seen Matt relocate from LA to Berlin and and establish a new chapter in the Mount Sims legacy, rebuilding the band with Berlin musicians Randy Twigg and Andre Lange and working with producer Thomas Stern of the legendary Crime and the City Solution. “A Grave” 12” EP is the first offering of these new tracks and will be available as a limited 12” EP on clear vinyl with stunning artwork by Peter Wu (one time pressing of 1,000 worldwide) and pushes the band even farther into the creepier and more aggressive territory he’s veered into, with a concoction of electronic music and stark post-punk he’s become respected for. Included is “Grave,” a single off the upcoming album “Happily Ever After,” and 3 exclusive tracks.

Samples:
Melting the Ice

Unwound

Available at our website:

(look for releases by other bands and labels as well!)

Will be available in Europe soon by some of the usual suspects. Manic Depression (France) and Enfant Terrible (NL) already have some copies!

the wild light LP was the best release of new material gigolo ever did…i was sceptical when i heard someone tell it was great, but it really is. Quite curious for the new one. Please reserve one for me M..

When I think of Mount Sims I’m taken back to the electroca$h era.
This sounds extremely different.
Are they trying to capitalize on this sound where the other one failed?

his stuff before wild light was pretty much electroclash indeed, but didnt that die around 2004? The wild light LP at least proved artists could overcome the electroclash aesthetic. Not that i know any examples beyond mount sims.

wait…there are samples. More ebm / industrial then post punk to me…not entirely convinced on this one.

this one is like electronic post-punk… no electroclash at all… a very good release for Hungry Eye and fitting that label’s output and profile very well…

Thanks Martijn!

Well, I can say one thing, if he’s working with Hungry Eye, he’s clearly not “cashing in”! Unwound is by far the most EBM-tinged track of the bunch, but it’s a good one, if you ask me.

Here’s some youtube footage in Budapest for those curious:

I was talking more about how he got his “fame” and from what I remember the sound was.
After listening to the samples I hear something entirely different from the electroclash days so it makes me wonder about the credibility of these tracks.
Mainly the intention behind this more evolved sound and certain dark appeal to it.

Is just my opinion and should not be taken at face value.

Sounds like The Klinik mixed with bad Rock Music. Maybe not that bad, I dunno

btw. not quite sure why no one likes ElectroClash, after all there were some good records and some not so good. But it combined good music wit sort of craziness and some style in fashion, which is rare (and all the cool jerks dont like it…) but just remember Bauhaus and Alien Sex Fiend,
