"Der Fan" & Neue Deutsche Welle

I just finished reading a great book, “Caligari’s Heirs”, and there was a chapter concerning the German film “Der Fan”, director-Eckart Schmidt-1982.  I have never seen the film, but the author states the film was a very integral representation of the Neue Deutsche Welle movement.  Any opinions on the film?  How is the soundtrack?  I am debating ordering a copy…although it is difficult to obtain a viewable copy in the states.

Well, at least several tracks of the soundtrack are from “Rheingold” ... quite nice ( “F.A.N” for example)!

I’ve watched the film several years ago on german television but it did not impress me that much ... if my mind doesn’t play tricks on me it mainly was about a fanatic fan of some german soccer club ...

I own an original VHS Tape of that movie and I really like it a lot.
The music is great indeed, the whole soundtrack was performed by german band Rheingold.
The story so far is about a young girl getting crazy for a musician (played by Bodo Staiger from Rheingold) There were a lot of discussions back in the 80s about that movie, because Desiree Nosbusch was naked in some scenes…
That she killed her “idol” with a candleholder or a knive (I don’t remember exactly…) was no problem… wink

It’s not that much german new wave, I would recommend these films more then “Der Fan”:

Decoder (1983) (with Genesis P.Orridge, F.M.Einheit)
Kalt wie Eis (1982) (with Blixa Bargeld, Thomas Voburka etc…)
