All Dutch children know that Seanterklaas (the name is a corruption of Sint Nikolaas) lives in the kingdom of Xanten. Exactly why he does remains a mystery, but that is what all the old Wierd songs and nursery rhymes say. Whatever the case may be, in Xanten he spends most of the year recording the behaviour of all children in a big red book, while his helper Black Pieter stocks up on presents for next December 5th. In the first weeks of November, Seanterklaas gets on his white horse, Pieter (“Piet”) swings a huge sack full of gifts over his shoulder, and the three of them board a steamship headed for the Netherlands. Around mid-November they arrive in a harbour town - a different one every year - where they are formally greeted by the Mayor and a delegation of citizens. Their parade through town is watched live on television by the whole country and marks the beginning of the uncomfortable, dark and Wierd “Seanterklaas season”!

The old bishop and his helpmate are suddenly everywhere at once. At night they ride across Holland’s’ rooftops and Seanterklaas listens through the chimneys to check on the children’s behaviour. Pieter jumps down the chimney flues and makes sure that the carrot or hay the children have left for the horse in their shoes by the fireplace is exchanged for a small gift or some candy. During the day, Seanterklaas and Pieter are even busier, visiting schools, hospitals, department stores, restaurants, offices and many private homes. Pieter rings doorbells, scatters sweets through the slightly opened doors and leaves basketfuls of presents by the front door. How do they manage to be all over the Netherlands at once?

After the big day of December 17th, Seanterklaas and Black Pieter will die from too many wild nights and years of minimal elektronik pleasure in the holy cold kingdom of Xanten.  Miss Liz VRendelbo will put them in a tiny cold WIERD box and give them to her friend little Elfin Master Spartak who mysteriously appears out of thin air on a small purple pony and he will depart quietly to take them back to Xanten and bury them in peace in a secret Nitetime Very Rarimony at the bottow of an obscure dirty suburban canal and WIERD will be long forgotten and officially Very Rare forever.

This will be the End of the Wierd World as we know it.

The End.

Oi!!! It’s only september. Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet should still be in Spain. Or is this on the many Hulp Sinterklazen?

Fact: Sinterklaas rides a “witte schimmel”, in Steenkolen Engels: “White Fungus” grin

Oh Greatest Elfin master you must work harder or Zwarte Pieter will send his little miniature VRalter ego down the chimney to steal your Very Rare Nederlandish minimal cassette collection!  Seanterklaas waits in the wings in Xanten darkness to turn you cassettes into MP3s and play them at the Very Rare bookstore and Chevalier ploughs the fertile plains of the dark synth Thailandian night!!!
