(minimal) synth Rock’n’roll

Hello folks

I’ve noticed this (sub)subgenre of synth rock’n'roll tracks that keeps poppin up from time to time, prime example being silicon teens of course. I think its very curious why doing synth rock’n'roll music appeal to wave artists, anyone got a clue? Anyhow, most of them are really great and funny!

My list so far:

ALU- Camarillo boogie
Stephan Eicher - Sweet jane
Silicon teens - Music for parties
Ende Shneafliet - Totally heartbroken
Schaltkreis Wassermann - mutanten ( tanzen rock’n'roll )
Organ - Akneboppin
Alan Vega - does these count?

If you know of more tracks like these I need to know!  8O
A mixtape of synth rock’n'roll will be one of the best mixtapes ever!

The first Indochine EP springs to mind, it includes a 60’s cover (not really rocknroll perhaps, but still), and the title song “Indochine (Les 7 Jours De Pékin)” has that fast-paced backbeat you like and the echo-ey guitars…

It’s an interesting question, there’s not a lot of songs that mix synth with rock’n'roll…

The first thing that comes to my mind is Telex’s early output (Twist A Saint Tropez, Rock Around The Clock, etc.).

Can anyone imagine how it might sound if someone combines 60ies Surf Guitars (a la Dick Dale) with typical minimal drum computer & synth sounds plus some C64-soundalike vocoder voices?

To my ears: the ultimate minimal synth rock’n roll!

Doctor Mix & The Remix are probably the most obvious example of synth rock ‘n roll. They were a Metal Urbain side project.

I think the appeal is that the early rock and roll songs were really simple and translated easily to monophonic synthesizer technology.

like I said in Z Gun 2 in my interview… early rock ‘n roll is the real minimal music…

Wow, mikrowelle was really funny music! Loved the Johnny cash cover :o

And I definitely have to look up doctor mix and the remix!

Regarding the simplicity of rock’n'roll I immediately start to think of D.A.F. and the like, but considering that early body music owes most of it from punk, and i don’t hear that much rock’n'roll in punk i am completely lost.  :?:

They do have a certain 60’s flavor, now you mention it… arguably more bubble gum pop than R&R but yeah!
