OUT NOW:
BloodLust! 103
Angel of Decay “Bleeding on the Flowers” CD
$14.00 USA/$17.00 World @ postpaid
(CD edition of the out-of-print cassette, first released
in 2007, in a numbered edition of 50 copies; Angel of
Decay is Jonathan Canady of Deathpile, The Urge Within,
Hollow Earth, Dead World, Torture Chamber, Blunt Force
Trauma, etc.; For this project, Canady focuses on “heavy
experimental electronics created using vintage analog synths
and other out of date equipment”; Heavier and more raw
than “Covered in Scars,” his 2005 Desolation House/Relapse
CD, this is the perfect follow-up to the “Radio Brain Damage”
7-inch [B!055, 2006] on BloodLust!; The CD format definitely
allows for a sharper and more vivid listening experience, and
the crackling electronic sounds seem more insistent than ever;
Nightmarish analog synth and tortured, muffled cries, for fans
of the M.B. [Maurizio Bianchi] school of industrial/power-
electronics; Professionally duplicated CD, single panel, double-
sided insert; black and white artwork; in jewel box with
shrinkwrap; Released in 2008)

Tracklisting:
1. “Bleeding on the Flowers” (27:28)
2. “Sick, Insane and Half Dead” (28:29)

Hi Bloodlust,

I have often wondered what to make of this kind of, well, Drone music.
Is it a sound that just happens to come about due to a number of people working together or is it really and admiration of death, blood, misery, torture etc. Please explain.

Well, I do not exactly understand your question… and I would not necessarily like to answer for Jonathan Canady, but I believe that he has made numerous public statements regarding his music being an outlet for his “dark” tastes.  He has been making music like this for a long time… his intentions are quite pure… But I suppose that he comes from a certain tradition in music… from Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Coil, etc.  All bands with a particular “bent.”

Angel of Decay has utilized a specific direction, compared to his other bands and projects, in that for AOD, he has channeled the content of his actual nightmares to develop his lyrics.

As for his relevance here, on the board- and to introduce him to those of you who are not aware of his work… bear in mind that he is a dedicated analog guy… he has played live with me on East Village Radio’s Minimal-Electronik Plus show, he recently played live at Wierd in NYC, and AOD will be on the next Wierd compilation… and my god, the tracks that he recorded for Pieter are something to behold!

Thanks for taking the time…
Mark
