Hi people,

I didn’t want to resurrect the “Most underrated artists” thread just for this, so I made it a fresh topic.

You might recall the open question what Silvia’s impact on her S/T album really was.

Tommi Stumpff just gave me his OK to post his answer to this:

“Der war gar nicht unerheblich. Silvia hat das Gesamtkonzept mitbestimmt. Also sowohl die musikalische als auch die textliche Richtung vorgegeben.”

Translation:

“It’s not to be neglected. Silvia co-shaped the general concept. This meaning she indicated the general direction of both the music and the lyrics.”

Tommi also confirmed that the project just happened because they still had some unused studio time on their hands and that the recordings had to be done in no time. And also that Silvia - normally a punk girl at the time - got a major overhaul to become a New Wave lady for the cover.  8)

Isn’t it about high time that the whole Tommi Stumpff back catalogue is rereleased?

as far as I know, he don’t want to have much to do with his stuff from the past…
I really like the releases he did solo - almost a step ahead the time - so I would be thankful to get it remastered wink

For those of you who are proficient in the language of Goethe and Nena, you can check out Tommi’s blog here:

In a nutshell, in June of this year he said he thinks CD re-releases are “out-of-date”. He thinks offering individual songs for download is the new way to go.

He says he’d give away for free all his songs, but he still would have to pay Gema fees for them and he doesn’t want to make a loss.

And as he’s got the copyrights for everything, there will be no back catalogue unless he changes his mind one day.

You can however download more or less his complete works from Grenzwellen:

And no, I’m not getting any commission on this.  8)

Personally, I want my Tommi Stumpff on vinyl!! Still looking for that Contergan Punk 12”....

Why be so modest Annalogue? You have got a very nice label yourself!!? smile

But when you think about Tommi owning the rights to his music, how did that Silvia re-release, which was very welcome I must add, come about? :?:

On another matter:

I don’t understand why the GEMMA wants money from musicians who decide to put their music on the internet for free like Die Tödlliche Doris did with their entire wonderfull catalogue?

Because they’re a bunch of lousy greedy disgusting graverobbers, is why. They can’t get their narrowminded heads around the possibility that they’ve sold the music as many times as they have any right to.
If they had it their way all music would be pay-per-listen.

I can’t say I know much about GEMA apart from the fact that for most people around it’s a four-letter-word smile

I just translated Tommi’s statement from the blog and I would’t know if the Dödliche Doris are possibly in a different legal position in which they don’t have to pay for making their stuff available.

The other possibilities are

a) they don’t know
b) they don’t give a shit

Well, whatever you do in life, there’s always a pimp :x

Well, first of all I love VOD’s work, and when it comes to box sets, VOD is just the first address. Then I guess Anna’s schedule is already pretty packed for the next year and most of all I hate dealing with third parties, especially the GxxA! I actually wonder how Tommi (I didn’t get too deep into his background, but always thought he had a very punk/anarchistic attitude) has managed to become a registered GxxA member…. that appears to be weird to me….. but I guess then he couldn’t know what cutthroats they are…
