[quote author=“nuit-exterieur”]...but as for the future of music, “the tapes are running out of time” augurs eerily of a system of exchange and production which fully forecloses on the physical.

Hum.
All I’m saying is, I prefer to have music in its original format, but sometimes the original format is too frail…

with cassette recording and production one retains the trace of the hand, the indelible happenstances of the musician and his/her studio.

Exactly! Sometimes, when transferring to CD, it is hard to decide whether that sound at the end of a track is the final sound of that track, or just some additional noise from assembling the master tape.

This, I realise, is veering off the topic

Ah, but we never stay on topic for long in this forum wink

But…i have a very initimate relationship with my ipod shuffle too.

And everytime i hear a hiccup it reminds me of the hard labour my or someone elses computer had to undergo in recording all that analog fuzzy beauty in it’s full glory (ok - semi-full glory as i cannot enjoy those meticulously compounded id3 tags on my shuffle).

There’s someone out there meticulously tagging files? Aside from those I’ve committed myself it seems rather difficult to locate a rip bearing a full set of tags.  Maybe you are having better luck….
