This is turning into a “how much money can I milk out of this” type of situation.  :x

they also play shitty WGT in may…
says enough about this topic…

I still love ABC and the show at BIMfest was absolutely awesome but way to short…
100% original sound, no trying to fit the modern style…
just pure ABC…

hmm, sounds like a “must” trip to belgium again…

I say spend your money in supporting new artist and not in recycled and multiple format re-releases! enough is enough.
The abc box is amazing, that’s all you need. It’s everything in one.

The next thing we need is abc toothpaste.

Hey, it’s only a picture disc release party and yes, ABC will perform live.  That’s it.  Just like with the Klinik some years ago, they do 2 or 3 performances and that’s it.  So “milking out” the situation, mmm perhaps, but not like the Rolling Stones, Simple Minds or whatever. :D

And I’m sure that people who missed the concert in december will be glad to have this chance to see them.

Anyway, in a few years, when all this minimal hype is over and done, I’m sure there will be enough people begging for another ABC-concert, saying “they never had the chance to see them live”.  Been there, seen it , done it.

And watch out for this new record label…

Why does every old band doing a rare gig or two automatically generate snidey remarks of the “milking the fans” variety?

If there are people who want to see ABC live and they play live, then bless them. Maybe they think playing their old songs on their old equipment is fun, it’s not like they get millions of euros out of it.

As for the “support new bands” flag, y’know, if any of them had anything relevant to say, like ABC had, this whole retro-dig-up-any-old-80s-underachiever-and-rerelease-them scene would not exist. People are still trying to copy ABC, and they’re still falling short of the original.

A lot of new underground bands invest tons of money in retro gear, making songs to sound like it’s 1982. If I want the sound of 1982, I go to the second hand store. The early eighties were a time where NEW was the norm, people simply did not buy box sets from 20 years ago.

Oyst,

Is not about playing live. That’s excellent! I wish I could see them.
It’s about another abc release on vinyl of songs that we all know just done live? and in the studio whatever that message says….
This is my argument.
Imagine if they decide to re-release all their releases in a nice tape box set rolleyes

com’on! give me a break!
if they feel the need to releae something make something new!

About the “new band” thing, well I agree to some degree. It’s to the individual artist what their motive is when they are creating their music. If they just want to mimic the “80’s” then more power to them but if someone is just inspired and passionate about that “sound” and is not replicating or copying that particular style then where’s the problem?

You can’t be serious if you think that all the “new bands” doing this DIY stuff are plagiarizing the “80’s” give me a break!

You apply for two breaks, I guess you should have at least one..

It is very true that I bought a 2CD of ABC tape material last year, called “Lost/ Found”, and it is likely that I wouldn’t of bothered if the box set had been released at that time.

As for their live pic disc, well I don’t know why not? I must admit of course, I don’t know what goes on it. If it’s the bonus tracks off the 5LP box, I’m inclined to agree with you. But if these are different tracks… Again, well, why not?

I’m not sure I’d like to hear ABC make a new album though. It would be difficult for them not to make it sound contrived, like “we got tired of this 20 years ago and moved on, but now we see we have an audience again so here we go”. If they can write another song as good as Waving hands or better then it’s a different matter!

Let’s wait and see, if they choose to make a ltd edn remix LP after this, you were right and ABC must be abhorred.

[Euughh… ABC in house remixes… now hows THAT for a ghastly idea!]

Noo, not all of them.
I DO think that it’s more or less correct for most of them though. I don’t know the new bands as well as you do though, so feel free to namedrop a couple who do new things that you’d recommend?

Hey, another thread getting pushed far beyond its limits :D

Announcements gone philosophy again, he?

Now I already made the proposal to open up this new philosophy/nonsense forum here LOL

But honestly, is something wrong with new bands producing “old” sound?

This is rather big question, as it entails the question if a musical style has a sort of life cycle like in getting born, hanging around for it bit and then going belly-up. Now we’re somewhat short of new musical styles these days, and have been so for a long time.

So, basically every musician on the planet is reviving an old genre today, now why shouldn’t people use old equipment to produce early 80’s type of music? Analogue kit just sounds more interesting, otherwise we wouldn’t be on this forum, and it’s not exactly the musicians fault they didn’t get born ca. 1960.

And Evolution also tends to hang on to winning formulas 8)

Well Miami and New York are putting out killer stuff :D :D
All new material and using old machines.

The new CD by WE. is good too.
The human puppets from greece are excellent! and there are more that I can’t think of at the moment.

There is so much good stuff coming out ATM!
Especially the americans are going strong with the already familiar names from NY and Miami, but the Germans have some very good fresh stuff as well like Silicon Scientist (I think you’d love it reactor), the new Echo West (did you mean them CR?), Wermut, Ich Wöltte Ich Könnte…
