I use an SH 1 and tried sequencing it with an MC 202, I didn’t like that. In the manual it shows it being used with a System 100 and an MC 8 but, these are pricey. Does anyone have any sequencing tips for this synth that might also but less costly?

easy: Roland CSQ-100 or CSQ-600 (pretty cheap to get)

.... also add some CR-78 or TR-606/TR-808 and you are there!  :D

i have a roland csq-100, maybe mine is broken (or it’s because my english is very bad you know, comprend qui veut pas), but i have problem to sequence it well. in fact, the sh09 sync well with the sh09… but when i add the tr606 like it is shown on the manual, there is no more notes/melody/pattern. there’s just a bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz or a brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr noise by the sh09 that never ends until you pull out the jack. so it’s completely useless, unless you don’t need sync drums. all the same, the best tips is to play all by hands, more funny and more human.

I highly recommend:

Or, if MIDI is anathema to your aesthetics:

(but they don’t come cheap either)

Hmm… sometimes you can round up an Oberheim Minisequencer for not too much:

only 8 steps / 2 channels but also includes lag/S&H, unquantized outputs, transpose inputs, trigger outs per step via the LED posts.  And you can clock it with a oscillator and get some organ tones out of it as well.
