Hello, have been lurking on this forum for a while, but just wanted to share this one.

Well, I just found this private-press synth/wave obscurity in the local Oxfam shop and there’s not much to be found online about it.

It was recorded at Blackwing studios, probably circa 1983 by the sound of it. Some nice buzzing synthesizers a la Circuit 7 (well, use your imagination) and catchy one-finger-melodies, although the vocal pushes the wrong New Romantic buttons for me. Anyway, I’ll let you have a listen. Anyone else come across this one?

yeah, the song has its moments, and some lovely synth sounds.

the b-side is more of an ethereal, portentious number - at a guess they were going for a kind of omd ‘architecture and morality’ vibe - they don’t quite pull it off, but the results are at least interesting.

Fucking hell, he actually wrangled it…

I noticed asteroidbunny had a copy for sale too this morning; at a nice £150. I was rather proud of myself for not biting him off with a “ha, it’s nice but I wouldn’t pay £15” - you know, trying to keep the forum a bit more pleasant than it has been lately - and now I see that copy is no longer for sale…

Well, it just goes to show. One born every minute, and it just takes that one. Congratulations Bunny.

Ø

“Produced by a certain John Fryer”

Obscure? Right.

Well if this is obscure music being sold off by means of obscure sales models, there can be but one explanation:

It got removed from Discogs in order to go up on Ebay…so keep a watchful eye out for it…the capital letters and explanation marks will lead you the way…

Yes, I know it was recorded at Blackwing Studios by John Fryer who-has-also-recorded-some-famous-people. I posted the record to the discogs database after all. Maybe if it’d been recorded in the artists’ bedroom under the duvet cover with a clip-tie mic and an EDP wasp I’d be able to legitimately claim it’s obscurity. Apologies.

If you’re all already well aware of the existence of this slightly iffy synth pop 7” then well done, you’ve done a lot more time on the minimal wave forum than me after all.

My (admittedly optimistic) discogs price (which was open to offers, fwiw) was a wild stab in the dark based on knowing nothing about the record or its possible value. To be fair, people have sold a lot of far worse records than that under the alleged ‘cold wave / minimal synth’ tag. And no, I won’t be putting it on ebay.

Anyway, I’m glad a few people have gained some enjoyment from the record (regarless of any ulterior motive on my part) - I reckon it could be a passable little minimal wave ditty given a sympathetic re-edit to expunge the more irritating moments (most notably the horrendous synth orchestra stabs)

Sorry to irritate you all. ciao.

Lighten up Buns! Keep’em coming. I may not give you money, but I’m always glad to broaden my musical horizon… wink

your discovery is appreciated! I’m sure i’m not just speaking for myself.

Too bad i was too late when you offered it again for a fraction of it’s original price…
