Sorry but I won’t let you off the hook here, mate.
If you are trying to make a point on a public forum you must also be ready to defend it.
I agree that you can use certain more or less “objective” criteria like drummers not being able to drum in sync, guitar players with butter fingers or singers that are just not cut out for singing - which then results in something that can be labelled as “bad music”. Now if that type of stuff didn’t get released 30 years ago, I didn’t necessarily get “better” in the meantime just like “bad wine” doesn’t improve in taste with age.
But again, if you don’t know what Chevalier actually wants to release, it is just impossible to make any kind of judgement.
And does a release have to be “essential” to the world at large? Again, people who make a release always think that it is essential because that’s their starting point. You should know about these things. 8)
So why worry about other people’s releases beforehand? It’s not exactly that there’s a quota for them and that the few that can be done therefore need to be “good” or “essential”....
A double LP, featuring, oh well, let’s be honest - stuff that was reissued before, which you didn’t really like that much the last time it was out, alongside some stuff that is still available in its original format, due to lack of interest.
This time with bad remastering - overcompression, de-hiss to the point where some of the music is muted out, you know the kind - and in a sleeve bizarrely influenced by the Madchester rave style of the early nineties.
Limited to 1500 copies worldwide, pressed on 120 g lo-quality recycled vinyl, this set is a sure-fire fiasco, guaranteed to give the Hommage label manager plenty of time in the future to watch tv or argue with his family and friends.
You almost got it right man, apart from the fact that the medium should be 17 gr CDr rejects with photocopied b/w artwork stolen from other releases or drawings of a 3-year-old of your choice.
yeah, sorry chev, my little rant there was nothing to do with your forthcoming comp (or any comp for that matter!), I just liked the idea when Falck mentioned the title.
Tape releases by Belgian bands eh? Looking forward to that, there’s such a lot of great stuff there. Best of luck!
Yes, there’s a lot of good music that hasn’t been discovered yet, especially on these tapes from the eighties. I have a lot of stuff I want to release, so I will start with this compilation. Soon more news about that!
A lot of these “geographical” compilations suggest a national or international scene that wasn’t there back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. It’s revisionist. One might just as well do a CR78 or Arp Odyssey compilation. Or a whole series: MS-10, MS-20, MS-50, MS-2000….
Now there’s a thought.

that’s an interesting point. on one hand, i completely agree. on the other hand, i would argue that even contemporary compilations of underground music often fall prey to such revisionism - the wierd records compilations, for instance, group together many acts from different countries, many of whom are unacquainted and, at least on the surface, entirely unrelated. the same holds for many synth compilations from the 80’s.
making a compilation, even one with contemporary acts, is a curatorial artform, not purely historical documentation.
what i had the chance to listen to at a few occasions in the last years was absolutely stunning. can’t wait for this comp to be released, and i am 100% sure it will be a milestone just like maskindans was
i think for sure there was a lot of crap on tapes in the 80s, but not everything that is unknown or “forgotten” and was never released on a “proper format” or sold in the 80s must be irrelevant, overrated oder simply bad. sometimes maybe the artists just didn’t follow the way consequently, considered themselves not “worth it”, had no money or found no label, or whatever…
remember oppenheimer analysis…
irrelevant ? absolutely not !
and ? it took like 25 years to be “officially” released
so, waiting for this baby as well as several other comps and (re)releases

Yes, I think you know what will be on it  (I think I love you Mike)
I also have another surprise you will like I think, I’m waiting for their “accord”

‘cause u dont have Danza, asshole
Sorry but I fail to see the joke or the irony here.
It’s bad enough that this thread seems to be the equavilent of a teenage girls’ “whose nose is the prettiest contest” for label owners, but if a potential client gets called asshole because he does not call Danza Meccanica a milestone, well, I’m sorry, but you’ve lost it, mate.
I bought Danza and also the Newclear Waves Split 7” (which is also great), but with a behaviour like that you will go on my personal blacklist no matter what you will release in the future.
