So anyways,

I went down to the local goth/ EBM/ synth shop, and stayed on and had a chat, and he played something rather fetching… It turned out to be a recent compilation CD called “Return to the Classixx” featuring some of the most kick-ass electro I’ve heard.

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Return-to-the-Classixx-Vol-1/master/14650

Compiled by two German DJs; Markus-Steffen Haag and Torben Schmidt, apparently both boys who know their EBM (Shcmidt has a discogs entry long as I don’t know what).
Lots of famous bands, and apparently they have tried to avoid some of the most obviously over-played and over-compiled hits - at least, I hardly recognised any of the tracks here.

So if any of you minimal wave-heads ever should need a place to start on your trek towards EBM expertise, here’s one.

On the same label, Infacted (run by Torben) there’s also a Classix series with so far Shift’s Electrofixx, Tribantura’s Lack Of Sense, X-Marks The Pedwalk’s Abattoir and with Armageddon Dildos’ East / West and The Invincible Spirit’s Push!  in the pipeline

I think Lights of Euphoria would have been a good band to directly follow on the track list….  8)

But seriously, can’t say this comp looks tempting either….and Trisomie 21’s Last Song (best song on there I bet) is EBM now? You must be kidding me….

It certainly isn’t the best EBM comp around. X Marks The Pedwalk, Orange Sector and Pankow were great bands, but the rest… Mwah. But maybe I am being a bit of an old fart having heard all those tracks back when EBM was still hot.
These days are great for buying EBM reissues though as it is almost 20 years ago: CLick Click reissues, Shift’s “Electrofixx”, X Marks The Pedwalk’s “Abatoir”...

The old “World Of Electronic Body Music” compilations are a better starting point for an introduction into the genre or any early 90’s Zoth Ommog compilation.  smile
