CARMODY “A Better Spider (1981 – 1985)”
CD Anna Logue Records ANNA 023.2009
CARMODY were Andrea Lesmo (synthesisers, tapes, bass, guitar) and Alberto Ramella (vocals) with the some help from Massimiliano Casacci (guitar - nowadays in Subsonica and running the Casasonica Studios) at the later stage of their existence. They came from Torino, Italy, and were mates of Monuments and Chromagain, also following a similar musical path with predominant synthesisers and drum machines (Boss DR-55, Korg KPR-77, Roland TR-909) along with some sparse guitars here and there. They recorded from 1981 to 1985 and issued three incredibly rare demo tapes. “A Better Spider” compiles the best tracks from those tapes, bringing you some of the best electropop/electrowave music ever coming out of Italy. CARMODY would have so deserved to reach a wider audience, especially the later stage tracks have had much potential to become small hits, and then “Messengers of Love” is definitely one most wonderful tracks ever recorded and led Anna wanting to do this release in the first place. There is no chance you shall miss out on this one if you are into stuff like Monuments or early 80’s electronic wave music in general.
CD features:
- limited edition of 1000 copies
- six panel full colour digipak
- remastered versions of tracks from their ultra rare demo tapes
- first 500 copies include a signed photo
THE HANDS OF CAIN “The Only Sound”
LP Anna Logue Records ANNA 021.2009
THE HANDS OF CAIN were Dimitris Chorianopoulos (vocals, bass), Spyros ‘S. Adam’ Floros (drums), Costas Papakitsos (synthesisers) and Dimitris Stamatiou (guitar) from Athens, Greece. In 1983 the HANDS OF CAIN evolved from of one of the first groups of the Greek punk scene of the early 80’s called Ausschwitss when their music was gaining a darker shade and their lyrics were changing to English. Unlike their former group, the HANDS OF CAIN had very little public exposure, but built their reputation amongst the lively Athenian dark wave/post punk scene of the time with a few live gigs in clubs like ‘Skylab’ and ‘Pegasus’. They finally split up in November 1985, and although none of their recordings was ever released their fame lived on. An end was put to this local hidden secret when Dimitris ‘Profitis’ Petrou sent Anna two tracks in Autumn 2007, “Two Steps to the End” and “The Dagger in Me”. Anna was blown away by those tracks and couldn’t believe they have remained unreleased. Of course, this had to be changed. The quality of HOC’s song writing is amazing, these are just strong compositions, and without any doubt, this album will perfectly line up with the best ever goth/dark wave albums being so close to Christian Death’s first recordings as well as the best songs by Bauhaus. Their tracks are pure mid 80’s despair and melancholy, typical of the goth/dark wave scene of the time, although such terms as goth or dark-wave had not yet been invented by journalists back then. The material was (more or less) preserved on dusty 8mm reels and worn-out cassette tapes – it is thanks to Dave Hewson, who digitally transferred and restored these tracks, we owe you much gratitude, Dave – that these essential songs do not remain in total obscurity. Prepare yourself for a milestone not only in Greek music history, but also in goth/dark wave history!

DILEMMA “Invisible Noise Hunters” LP+7”
Anna Logue Records ANNA 020.2009/ANNA 020-7.2009
DILEMMA was Klaus Hahn and Christoph Schaller, originally from Viersen, Germany. Out of a deep admiration for rough early 80’s minimalistic electrobands like DAF, Portion Control or The Klinik they themselves started early to create some weird tracks with borrowed synthesisers, found metal parts and whatever did create some noise. Klaus’ first projects were The Chemical Death and Cat No Res, but once established as a permanent duo with Christoph they went on as DILEMMA. They recorded around seven tapes in between 1986 and 1990, and made vinyl appearances on the highly collectible releases “Christmas EP” (7” on Dirk Ivens’ Body Records) as well as on “VA – Forms of Elektronik Body Music” (LP on Impuls Records). Also they supported The Klinik on a tour in 1989. Unfortunately, DILEMMA didn’t have much luck since with people letting them down when it came to an album production or even stealing their ideas for other productions, so DILEMMA eventually stopped in 1991. So it needed Anna, who has actually grown up with DILEMMA’s music, to work at the plan to finally give DILEMMA its right place in music history and it has become a little dream come true for all participants that this album sees its final release. Most tracks are taken off their cassette “Dismember your Body” (1988), as well as from “Pure Epitaxial Dilemma” (1987), plus adding three tracks from a 1988 live performance to the 7”. They have been carefully and perfectly restored by Ton Willekes who we own a great deal of gratitude. DILEMMA’s music is pure raw electronic minimalism in the vein of DAF, but with a touch of the mid-80’s Belgian hard electro bands such as The Klinik or Vomito Negro. A monotone Roland TR-505 punches through the tracks with hard sequences and sparse synth effects from the Roland SH-101 and Yamaha CS30m. Two years of work on this release have passed, but it was worth every single effort.

DESIGN “Fashion & Seduction/Premonition”
7” Anna Logue Records ANNA 008.2006
DESIGN are Edouard Janssens and Eric Brusselmans from Belgium. In the early 80’s they released two tracks on Belgian vinyl compilations: “Premonition” on the sought after “Topless Game” LP (1983) and “Sunset Boulevard” on the “Nuit Blanche” LP (1984). “Premonition” was recorded in September 1982 on 24-track and mixed in Dan Lacksman’s (TELEX) SynSound studio in Brussels. In the same session the previously unreleased track “Fashion & Seduction” was recorded but never made it to any further release. Anna is happy to release these two great tracks, the first one heard for the first time, the other one long deleted and now even remastered by Edouard himself. Definitely not to be missed!
