i thought this might be a fun/nerdy topic: minimal synth bands named after sci-fi stuff?

ill kick it off:

bene gesserit - witch clan from herbert’s dune series?

1 futurologischer congress - german name of stanislaw lem book? (btw my company is named after a phrase used in the excellent english translation of this book: bananalogue)

alphaville - jean-luc godard awesome sci-fi (maybe minimal sci-fi?!?) movie from Cheyney/Éluard/Borges influences.  they should have named the band alpha 60 or lemmy caution…

Solid Space and most of their tracks reference sci fi. Their track “destination moon” comes from one of the first sci fi films made, from 1950.

wasnt Aelita, Queen of Mars (I think 1924, USSR) one of the first sci-fi flics?
I read soviet airplanes dropped flyers all over the big cities to promote the movie 8O

aelita is good, but “le voyage dans la lune” beat it by about 20 years (maybe thats more fantasy than sci-fi though?)

ill have to find that terra nova! 

the heinlein book that destition moon is based on isnt that great, but it has a weird nazi moonbase battle at the end (i think the movie changed it to communists.. of course)

sorry, I can’t agree to you in that point, because in my opinion Metropolis was a film about the big moloch, the big machine that have too much influence in our lifes, the difficult between the two-class party

Both films are absolute great, both are (besides TRON & Liquid Sky) my absolute favourites, but Das Kabinette of Dr. Caligari has nothing to do with science fiction

The Human League was one side of a sci-fi board game IIRC?

yes i think “league of humans” was one of the factors in the avalon hill game “merchant of venus” ...i think that was the game…  they just slightly changed it.  of course the same guys would later use the name “heaven 17” - the name of one of the chart topping pop groups from “a clockwork orange”

Well not quite minimal wave, more one of those unsuccesfull synthpop experiments that from the early days, but it is the only band that makes references to my favorite Doctor.  :D

One of the tape so of The Human League starts with an fictional introduction by Jason Taverner, the TV presenter from “Flow My tears, the Policeman Said”.

OK, I give up. There are enough titles between the tea-rooms of Mars and the hell-holes from Uranus, but I can’t come up with many band names. There 17 billion bands out there, so where are they hiding?

Also simply Martin Llyod from Oppenheimer Analysis. He told me already some few times beeing influenced by sci-fi authors like k. dick or w.s. bourrough.
