The first of the Central Unit formation dates back to 1980. Based in Bologna, in 1982 they autoproduced an EP entitled “Loving Machinery”, which got a decent response in Europe (Belgium, Holland and Germany in particular) thanks to one of four songs , “Saturday Nite”, much time passed from private radio.
The following year, they released their first album, “Central Unit”, which makes use of the artistic production of Peter Principle, Tuxedomoon bassist. Despite the flattering acceptance by the music critics, the group broke up in 1984, only to reform in 2000 with a slightly altered line-up. The well-known graphic artist Giorgio Carpinteri drew the covers of all the works of the band.Between technology and cultural references too far apart, the Central Unit are found to fuse different musical genres, blending the past, present and future without posing dogmatic limits on the use of their own language, and without stifling their melodic impulses.
