The group formed around Maurice G. Dantec , founder of the formation with Éric Vennettilli, Marc L’Azou, replaced by Jean-Paul Ruard, then Jean Ternisien. First named State of Emergency, the quartet soon changed its name to Artifact.

Several studio sessions have brought together many pieces evolving from basic punk to more experimental music that some have brought closer to The Pop Group , mixing funk , pop , punk and new wave . In parallel, an experimental short ( Crash ), directed by Riton V, shot in Super 8 , freely inspired by JG Ballard was born in 1977 . It was only in 1980 that the first and only album of the band, Agit ‘Pop , was released, preceded by the single and its maxi, MAE (Massacre at the electrode.) In 1979. A number of Actuel with Interview with Jean Ternisien assimilates the group to “modern young people” with Daniel Darc of Taxi Girl and Philippe Pascal of Marquis de Sade . The group dissolved soon after the release of the album, victim of internal tensions.
