“Celebrating a year of airwave trailblazing, the NTS crew have organised a music-fuelled knees-up. Kicking things off with a street party in E8′s Gillet Square on Saturday afternoon, the fun will continue until the last man is left standing at an as yet unknown warehouse. Food, drink, good times and superlative vibes will be served-up to an on-going soundtrack with live sets from Thristian BPM, Mamiko Motto, Martelo, Jon Rust, A Guy Called Gerald, Marcellus Pittman, Funkineven and Charles Drakeford. An amazing day and night of music, everyone who has helped make the Hackney-based, viral radio station the vibrant international success it is today will be out and about. i-D Online caught-up with regular NTS’er and resident photographer, Fergus McDonald to find out how one small brainwave became a global community, all from a former taxi booking booth in Dalston and debut an exclusive mix from one of their birthday party headliners, Veronica Vasicka.” For full article via i-D Magazine, read here.

A GUY CALLED GERALD
A GUY CALLED GERALD
Where to start… Pioneer of Acid House and producer of the classic ‘Voodoo Ray’, founding member of 808 State, provided the blueprint for what would become jungle and drum and bass with early releases on his Juice Box label, collaborative work with Goldie and still prolifically releasing music… An undisputed legend, we feel priveleged to have A Guy Called Gerald headline our birthday.
We’re proud to welcome one of the Motor City’s finest to play our birthday, known for his own output across Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature and Omar-S’ FXHE labels as well as on his own Unirhythm imprint he also constitutes one part of The Three Chairs alongside Rick Wilhite, Kenny Dixon Jr. (Moodymann) and Theo Parrish and with Parrish and Omar-S as the T.O.M. Project - some CV. Famed for his rugged, deep house DJ sets (check his FACT mix here: http://www.factmag.com/2010/11/12/fact-mix-201-marcellus-pittman/) we knew we wanted him for our party.
Co-founder of East Village Radio in New York, where she also hosts a weekly show focusing on unearthing synth -based electronic pop music from the 70s and 80s, a genre which has come to be known as ‘minimal wave’. Inspired by the music for her shows, ‘Minimal Wave’ the label was born; forming an outlet for re-issuing her discovered gems. Brought to a wider audience when she and Stones Throw’s Peanut Butter Wolf compiled ‘The Minimal Wave Tapes’ last year, volume two is out later this month. After seeing her play a brilliant set of italo-disco, house and her own minimal wave rarities last year at Huntley & Palmers we had to get her over…

You can catch FunkinEven monthly on NTS’ airwaves, his show, much like his music, is dedicated to electronic music through the decades from Kraftwerk to the Neptunes via Masters At Work and Prince. Responsible for a slew of heavy tracks on Eglo Records, and more recently his own Apron Records.
